LONDON: Mazhar Majeed, the agent behind the Pakistan cricket betting scam that rocked the sport, on Thursday lost a legal challenge against his conviction.
Majeed, 36, from Croydon in south London, was sentenced in November to two years and eight months in jail after pleading guilty to conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to make corrupt payments.

Umar Gul’s house raided in search of militant

Fast bowler Umar Gul was in the news for reasons other than cricket on Tuesday when his house in Peshawar was raided by a team of army commandos and his brother arrested on charges of harbouring a wanted militant.

Gul’s brother, Meraj, was arrested along with two other men on charges of providing shelter to his uncle, Haji Daly, who is believed to be an active member of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam.

Shoaib Malik included in squads for ODI, T20 series

DUBAI: Discarded former captain Shoaib Malik was also included in the Pakistan squads for One-day International and Twenty20 International series.

"On the request of Misbah, the selection committee has agreed to send Malik
to join the one-day and T20 squads," Pakistan Cricket Board said.

Malik's inclusion comes as a surprise after he flopped in his last five one-day innings, scoring a mere 33 runs. He managed just 22 in three Twenty20 innings.

Set a daunting 324-run target, England were bowled out for 252 with paceman Umar Gul taking 4-61 and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal 4-67 to help Pakistan achieve a first-ever Test cleansweep against their opponents.

LONDON: Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif and agent Mazhar Majeed were awarded sentences on Thursday in Britain for their role in fixing parts of a Test match against England.
Pakistan former Test captain Salman Butt, 27, received 30 months, fast bowler Mohammad Asif, 28, received one year in jail and 19-year-old Mohammad Amir was sentenced to 6 months detention at Feltham Young Offenders institutiton.

Pak bowlers can help Pakistan beat SL Ajmal

Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has said he thinks that the national team`s bowling attack can get the better of the Sri Lankan batsmen in the upcoming Test series in the UAE.

Calling Sri Lankans a very balanced team Ajmal added that hey are a good side, but I look at the Pakistan side and my team mates. I feel that we can be successful in the test series, Ajmal said.
