ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, while railing against the government on Wednesday, appealed to the masses to come out on the streets to rid the country of the present rulers.
Addressing a large gathering of parliamentarians and workers of PML-N and supporting parties outside the Parliament House at the protest camp of the party against load shedding and corruption, Nawaz turned the guns at the PPP-led government, accusing it of incompetence and bad governance. He called upon the masses to back him to launch a movement against the government.
Calling for a revolution to get rid of the present rulers, the PML-N chief asked the youth, farmers and other section of society to come forward to change the destiny of the country. He said that Pakistan has lost its dignity due to the flawed policies and incompetence of the rulers, and blasted President Asif Ali Zardari, asking him to come out of the Presidency to see for himself the problems being faced by a common man.
Nawaz blamed the PPP government for 'destroying' the state of Pakistan and vowed to restore the lost dignity of the nation. He also criticised the government for the alleged corruption of billion of dollars in various institutions. Corruption and unemployment, he said, were at an all-time high and the government was directly responsible for it. He claimed the government was appointing people of its own choice to key posts.
While appreciating the Supreme Court verdict on the suo motu proceedings on the Karachi law and order situation, Nawaz blamed the government for the unrest in the port city, saying that everyone was waiting to see when the references against criminals would be filed by the government, as ordered by the Supreme Court. He was of the view that it was necessary to give punishment to the criminals and they should be stripped of political support for a permanent resolution of Karachi situation.
Nawaz termed October 12, 1999, as a Black Day when the then army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf staged a military coup toppling his government. He held the former military president responsible for all the failings of Pakistan and said the man who arrested judges was given a guard of honour at the time of his departure. On the All-Parties Conference (APC) resolution, the PML-N president said that it was prerogative of parliament whether to accept it in its original form, amend it or reject it. He also urged his party's parliamentarians to vote in support of the resolution.
